No: 1 This is Avtar Singh Johal and his wife
Nachhattar Kaur Johal. They have been living
here in Amstelveen for 25 years and are
originally from Punjab in India. They run a
Ladies Fashion Stall in Amsterdam’s Famous
Street Market- Albert Cuyp. They have also raised a family
and are currently getting their daughter through her final
year at university. Life has become hard for them, as the
amount of sales have reduced, but the charges for having
the stall keep going up annually. They also feel that the
industry they are working in is getting over saturated with
more expats and immigrants. They are thinking of moving
back to India once their daughter’s education has completed
and hopefully can get a kickstart to a successful career.
